The purpose of trauma-focused therapy is to offer skills and strategies to assist in understanding, processing, and coping with emotions and memories tied to traumatic experiences, with the goal of empowering the individual to build a healthier and more adaptive meaning of the experience that took place in his/her life.
Those who experience trauma may be experiencing anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts or memories of what happened to you, trouble in relationships, or negative thoughts about yourself, others, or the world.

Family Therapy
We all start this life with a family, that family may be composed of blood relatives, adopted parents, foster family, a church family or a close-knit neighborhood. This family that we acquire when we are born influences every aspect of our lives, from our first moments to our last.
For better and for worse, our family affects who we are and who we become. We learn our vocabulary, our habits, our customs and rituals, and how to view and observe the world around us. However, the most crucial is how we learn to love and how to interact with others from these first important relationships.
Families often struggle with various issues which effect the entire family and their ability to communicate, express emotion, problem solve and work together.
Common concerns that family therapy can help with include:
• Family conflict – extended and/or family unit
• Family disconnects
• Financial issues
• Marital discord
• Coming to an agreement with differing parenting styles
• Communication issues
• Problems with emotional support
• Navigating conflict between adults – adult children, adult siblings, and their parents
• Navigating conflict between in-laws and partners
• Assisting families recover from grief, major life changes, and trauma
• Helping a family cope with chronic illness, addiction, or behavioral problems
Family therapy focuses on the entire family unit to find ways to work more effectively together. The therapists’ focus is on the entire family system to address issues and concerns, resolve conflicts, improve communication and support in order to help everyone function better and increase family connectedness.
It is often short term. It may include all family members or just those able or willing to participate. Your specific treatment plan will depend on your family’s situation. Family therapy sessions should teach you skills to deepen family connections and get through stressful times, even after you’re done going to therapy sessions. A free 15-minute consult to explore if family therapy is a good fit for your family is available.
Parent Coaching
Do you feel like what you are doing is not working? Your parenting style differs from that of your partner, it can be frustrating (at best) and destructive (at worst), creating distance between partners and confusion for the children. Or are you’re repeating yourself a thousand times a day? You’ve tried timeouts, bribes, and threats to get your children to behave, but nothing works. You’re not sure what to do next, and you constantly worry that it’s only going to get worse. It feels like a never-ending struggle. You’re ready for an outside perspective. Someone to talk to instead of relying on Google searches, advice from family and friends.
Whether you are a single parent or adjusting to coparenting, a foster parent, grandparent raising grandchildren, or simply wanting to feel better about the way you manage life with your child, let’s talk. Parent coaching does not require us to give a mental health diagnosis to anyone – we can educate, problem-solve, implement strategies, and identify and practice skills to help you become the parent you would like to be.
Please note that insurance companies do not cover parent coaching.
Couples Therapy
All couples encounter struggles because love is tough business! It requires hard work, compromise and regular maintenance, which couples counseling can provide. For many people, both married and unmarried, the idea of attending couples therapy or marriage counseling can seem unnerving or unnecessary, especially if they’re in a healthy relationship. Many couples have issues with communication. Couple’s counseling isn’t just about healing wounds—it’s also about cultivating your relationship as it grows in order to prevent miscommunication and issues in the future.
So, whether you are a new couple, or you’ve been together for a while, having your first child, or working through something new after years of marriage. Couple’s therapy is for any couple who wants to increase communication, improve feelings of togetherness, or simply work through some of the normal conflicts of everyday life.
Life Transitions
One thing that is definitely going to happen is changes in life. Life is full of transitions- finishing school, a new job, a new relationship, trying to manage all the relationships in your life, having children, a difficult life circumstance, or an upcoming difficult decision. Anxiety can be paralyzing and keep you from moving forward. You can stay stuck in comparing yourself to others and not knowing how to change it.
A therapist can help you process your feelings with an unbiased individual who is not part of your everyday life, and as such, allows you to work through your own feelings, opinions, and concerns in order to proceed feeling empowered, in control, and prepared for the next steps.
Therapy is not always long term. Many individuals utilize only a handful of sessions to work through something important to their life and then only utilize therapy as needed or wanted. We want to help remove the stigma of therapy as something people become dependent on, and we want to normalize therapy as a preventative service that can help everyone.
Therapy doesn’t have to a long-term commitment. It doesn’t always take months of therapy to accomplish your goals for improving your relationship.
